Reminder

To all Members,
As announced in the October 2010 Bulletin, the dues increase will go into effect starting the first pay of May, May 12th, 2011. At the 2001 National Convention we adjusted the formula we use to calculate the dues. The percentage rate went down from 1.35% to 1.28% of the maximum annual salary of an OP-1. At the same Convention, it was also proposed and adopted to not charge the maximum of the authorised dues. Since that time, we have not followed the provisions of the National Constitution (article 10.1) to calculate the annual membership dues. However, with the rise of Labour Relations conflicts since 2007, the Association now finds itself with no other choice but to now adhere to this provision as stipulated in the National Constitution.
Grievances and Arbitrations are major expenses that are increasing dramatically year over year. As stated in this year’s report of the Standing Committee on Finance, ‘’legal costs for the past year (2010) were a total of $683,689.00 – which is a huge increase of more then 50 % from the previous year.’’
We have already started to change some practices as suggested in the Standing Committee on Finance report. Time will say if these changes are adequate and sufficient. You can be assured that our priority will continue to be, to provide all members fair representation.
For your information, the reports are in the ”documents” section, We will post the Deloitte report as soon as we receive it.
