Pension Plan March 28th, 2014

In a historic first time, the 4 labour unions of Canada Post jointly requested and participated in a meeting to seek information related to the current status and future plans of our Defined Benefit Pension Plan.

On Friday March 28th of this year a meeting was held at the Head Office of Canada Post. Additionally, Officials from the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) were in attendance and participated in this meeting as observers.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada, the Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers as well as the Association of Postal Officials of Canada jointly expressed during this meeting the request of the employer to further clarify and share in detail the documents related to the status of our Pension Plan. All of the Representatives also requested that further information related to the current Accounting, including Mortality Table updates be shared with the Bargaining Agents in order for all of us to be better prepared to meet together and to seek possible solutions.

The 4 labour unions have requested that follow-up meetings be planned in order to allow for the exchange of documents and to explore solutions related to ensuring the viability and sustainability of our Pension Plan.

We will continue to keep you informed as soon as possible according to further developments.
