December 2012

Dear colleague,

We understand that there is some concern that we have not informed you of our plans as the Rural Mail Safety Review comes to a close in Quebec.

Your Association has been asking on a regular basis that we share our plans, but we have not been in a position to do so as we worked out our strategy and approach. We certainly recognize that the uncertainty makes it difficult for some, but please be assured that the Corporation is actively working to minimize the impact of surplus activities on the team.

In the next few days, the Corporation intends to make voluntary departure incentive offers to select members of the team. This will be a very targeted series of offers. We hope these offers will reduce the number of employees who would be subject to being declared surplus and the resulting activities and processes. When it is clear how many employees have accepted the offer, we will be in a better position to make a declaration of surplus. We expect to know this in early 2013. Rest assured that we will work with the Association, and in accordance with the collective agreement, to ensure that we follow the proper steps when the surplus process begins.

The Rural Mail Safety Review has been very successful, and I would like to thank you for your efforts and commitment to making it so. We will be in touch as soon as we have further details.

Sincerely,

John Polak
